Gov't to Take Action if China's Retaliation Violates Global Norms

Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho says the government is closely reviewing whether China's retaliatory actions against South Korea's THAAD antimissile deployment violate international norms.

During a meeting with overseas economy-related ministers held Friday, Minister Yoo said that if such actions are deemed as a violation, Seoul will respond according to relevant laws and procedures.

The minister said the government has kept close tabs on the overall situation related to the missile shield deployment, engaging in active responses and mindful of all possible scenarios.

He said the government has continued efforts to communicate with China and urge its cooperation through various channels including diplomatic missions and a bilateral committee governing the South Korea-China free trade agreement.

Beijing fiercely protests THAAD despite assurances from Seoul and Washington that it is only aimed at defending against North Korea.
