The government says it will devise measures to minimize damage South Korean firms could face with China’s latest steps which appear to be in retaliation to the deployment of THAAD on the Korean Peninsula.
The government unveiled the plan during a meeting of economy-related ministers on Wednesday.
The government vowed to exert both economic and diplomatic efforts to minimize losses that South Korean firms and people in China could suffer while keeping a close eye on related developments in China.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho said that China has never linked its latest steps against South Korean firms with THAAD.
Yoo also expressed caution about filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization(WTO) against China, saying it is not appropriate to do so at the current stage.
The government said it will closely monitor market trends regarding trade and swiftly and sternly devise countermeasures, including steps to stabilize the market, if deemed necessary.
