The White House says that it will review the whole host of free trade deals and other trade-related agreements the U.S. has signed, as President Donald Trump made clear throughout his campaign.
White House Spokesman Sean Spicer said in a regular news briefing Tuesday that the review is to make sure that the U.S. and its workers will get the best out of the trade deals, which can be subject to updates in many cases. He added that it doesn’t mean any one particular country.
His remarks indicate the Trump administration’s determination to renegotiate and revise many trade deals in a way to greater benefit the U.S.
During his campaigning, Trump pledged to renegotiate the South Korea-U.S. free trade deal, calling it an agreement that kills jobs in the U.S. He has yet to make detailed remarks on this pledge since winning the presidential election.
