Hyundai Motor Group will leave the scandal-ridden Federation of Korean Industries(FKI), the nation’s largest business lobby.
In the wake of public criticisms over the FKI's involvement in the Choi Soon-sil scandal, a high-ranking official at Hyundai Motor Group told KBS Tuesday that Hyundai Motor announced its plans to leave the organization.
The official said that ten other affiliates including Kia Motors and Hyundai Mobis will also notify the FKI of their decisions to leave within the day.
With the Hyundai companies joining the series of membership withdrawals, all of the nation’s top four business groups are leaving the business organization.
LG Group announced its departure from the FKI in December last year, becoming the first conglomerate to do so.
In 2015, the four conglomerates accounted for some 77 percent of annual contributions to the FKI, which amounted to over 49 billion won.
The FKI plans to hold a regular meeting on Friday to select the next chairman and discuss self-reform measures.
