Former Democratic Party chief Sohn Hak-kyu joined the minor opposition People’s Party on Friday.
 
In a ceremony marking his entrance into the party, Sohn said the People’s Party must play a leading role in a power shift. He said now it is up to the People’s Party to complete the mission of civil revolution.
 
Sohn stressed the need for the party to become a true reformative party that protects the people from the greed of forces with privilege and vested rights.
 
Former cochairman of the party, Ahn Cheol-soo, welcomed Sohn's entry, saying the public will view the party with higher chances of taking power. 
 
Chun Jung-bae, a former party leader, also said Sohn's entry has greatly raised the possibility of the party winning the next presidential election.
