2.9 Magnitude Aftershock Reported in Gyeongju

A two-point-nine magnitude earthquake hit Gyeongju early on Thursday.

According to the Daegu branch of the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA), the tremor was detected seven kilometers south-southwest of the North Gyeongsang Provincial city at 2:34 a.m.

The agency said it appears to be an aftershock from last year’s five-point-eight magnitude earthquake, adding there would be no significant damage from it.

A total of 582 secondary earthquakes have been reported so far since the September 12th earthquake struck off the ancient kingdom capital, including 21 measured at three or over on the Richter scale.
