Quarantine authorities have already culled 826 cows this year due to the spread of foot-and-mouth-disease(FMD).
The Agriculture Ministry said Thursday that cows at 12 farms have been culled after an outbreak in Boeun, North Chungcheong Province, spread to the North Jeolla and Gyeonggi Provinces. The number includes 472 cows at nine farms that were culled as a preventive measure.
By breed, 438 dairy cows at four farms, 359 Korean native cattle at seven farms and 29 beef cattle at one farm have been culled.
By next Monday, the ministry plans to vaccinate two-point-83 million cows against FMD out of a total of three-point-three million cows across the country. Only those that have received vaccinations within the past four weeks or those that are scheduled to be processed in the next two weeks will be excluded from the vaccination.
