January was a very good month for South Korean shipbuilders. 

Korean shipyards beat China and Japan to take the number one global position in new orders, with requests for seven ships amounting to 330-thousand compensated gross tons(CGTs).  Compare that figure to just 20-thousand CGTs in January of last year.

South Korea's share of the global shipbuilding market in January was 55-point-five percent of a total of 600-thousand CGTs worth of  ship orders placed globally. China and Japan accounted for 18-point-three percent and four-point-one percent, respectively.
