Local Scientists Develop Nano MRI Lamp

A group of local scientists has developed a new technology that highlights cancer cells when diagnosing with Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI).

The Institute for Basic Science said on Tuesday that the team led by Cheon Jin-woo, the head of the institute’s nanomedicine center, succeeded in developing the “Nano MRI lamp” which brightly displays sick cells by up to ten times its surroundings.

Cheon said his team was able to develop the lamp after discovering how to tune the MRI signals "ON" only in the presence of a targeted disease.

The team’s latest research results were published in Nature Materials.
