South Korea’s largest national flag carrier Korean Air has ranked 18th among 72 global airlines in terms of sales.
According to U.S.-based industry magazine Airline Weekly, Korean Air raked in slightly more than ten billion U.S. dollars in sales between September 2015 and the same month last year. Asiana Airlines came in 28th with sales of five-point-zero-two billion U.S. dollars.
Top rankers on the list include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Lufthansa, which are all carriers that posted sales of more than 300 billion U.S. dollars.
In terms of operating profit, Korean Air came in 46th with 72 million U.S. dollars, while Asiana Airlines ranked 49th with 66 million U.S. dollars.
It showed that the Korean carriers’ sales have not led to substantial profits due to a decline in the domestic flight sector and fierce competition from low-cost carriers.
Delta Air Lines took first place with an operating profit of four-point-34 billion U.S. dollars, followed by American Airlines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
