S. Korea Posts Second Largest Current Account Surplus in History

South Korea posted a current account surplus of nearly 100 billion U.S. dollars last year.

According to the Bank of Korea(BOK) on Friday, the country’s current account surplus amounted to 98-point-68 billion dollars last year.

It is the second biggest yearly current account surplus the country recorded since 105-point-94 billion dollars in 2015.

December’s current account recorded a surplus of seven-point-87 billion dollars, extending the record long surplus to 58 straight months since March 2012.

The goods balance surplus stood at 120-point-45 billion dollars last year, marking the second consecutive year it surpassed the 120-billion-dollar mark, although it edged down by one-point-82 billion dollars from 2015.

However, the services balance deficit last year rose to a record high of 17-point-61 billion dollars.
