Google Tests New Viewer for Hangul Files

The American multinational technology company Google is said to be testing a new viewer that shows files written in South Korea’s homegrown word program “Hangul” on its Web browser Chrome.

A Google Korea official said Thursday that his company is testing the new viewer, which will allow users to open Hangul Word Processor(HWP) files. But the official added that it remains undecided when the new viewer will be available.

Currently, Chrome directly shows MS Word or PDF files in its browser viewer. But it provides no viewer support for HWP files, forcing users to operate other programs, such as Hangul or its exclusive viewer, to open them.

Chrome is the most popular Web browser in South Korea with a 50 percent market share, outperforming Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
