S. Korea's Lottery Sales Low among OECD Nations

State data shows that an increasing number of Koreans are buying lotteries, but the country’s lottery sales are relatively low for its economic scale.

According to the Korea Lottery Commission on Sunday, which operates under the auspices of the Finance Ministry, the country’s lottery sales account for zero-point-22 percent of its gross domestic product in 2015, ranking 22nd among the 30 member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The ratio is much lower than the OECD average of zero-point-47 percent.

Greece topped the list with one-point-94 percent, followed by Italy, Portugal and Spain.

South Korea’s lottery sales totaled three-point-05 billion U.S. dollars, ranking eleventh amongst OECD countries. Its per capita lottery sales came to 59 dollars, ranking 26th among 30 OECD nations.
