Gov't to Lessen Proportion of Trade with US, China

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho says the government will work to reduce the proportion of trade with China and the U.S. out of South Korea’s total trade, citing high uncertainties in the two nations.

During a meeting of economy-related ministers on Thursday, Yoo said the government will boost cooperation with high-potential economies.

While predicting this year to be one that witnesses the most amount of uncertainties compared to any other year, he pledged to strengthen efforts on managing external risks.

He said the government will first work to establish stable economic cooperation with the U.S. and China. He said plans are in place to  communicate with Washington strategically and closely to swiftly establish economic ties that benefit both sides. The government also plans to boost economic and trade consultations with China, South Korea’s largest trade partner.
