Hyundai Rotem to Supply Subway Cars to Egypt

South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem Company has won an order from Egypt to supply 256 subway cars that will operate on Line three of the Cairo Metro.

The 490-billion-won, or 420-million-dollar deal, will allow the company to make more than half of the total cars that will run on the line.

A Hyundai Rotem official said Wednesday that the company has been chosen as the preferred bidder and will soon take procedures to conclude the contract after receiving a letter of agreement from Egypt. The official expressed expectations that the latest deal will offer Hyundai Rotem an advantage in future bids to supply subway cars for Cairo’s metro line five.

The South Korean company beat out other strong foreign rivals such as France’s Alstom.
