US Eggs Hit Shelves in S. Korea

U.S. eggs have hit shelves in South Korea.

Retail store Lotte Mart began to sell the eggs on Monday at eight-thousand-490 won per tray of 30 eggs. That’s about seven U.S. dollars.

The eggs arrived in South Korea from the U.S. via a Korean Air cargo plane on January 14th. They cleared customs after passing tests by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The eggs were imported to ease the shortage in the country's egg supply due to the bird flu outbreak.

Since the first case of avian influenza was reported on November 16th, roughly 32 million birds, including egg layers, have been culled.
