8 Research Institutes, Universities to Jointly Develop Hypertube System

Government-funded research institutes and universities will jointly develop a bullet train that can run one-thousand kilometers per hour.

Eight institutes and universities, including the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology and Hanyang University, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) on cooperation in developing a “hypertube” system.

In line with the MOU, the eight agencies will, for the next three years, test various hypertube-related technologies, including that pertaining to infrastructure, tube structure, propulsion and levitation and wireless communication.

A hypertube system refers to a bullet train system in which a capsule-form magnetic levitation train travels one-thousand kilometers per hour inside a near-vacuum tube tunnel.
