Sales of Content Industry Top 100Tln Won

Sales of South Korea’s content industry surpassed 100 trillion won last year for the first time.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Sunday, sales of the content industry reached 105-point-two trillion won last year, up five-point-seven percent from a year earlier.

Sales of the industry steadily increased over the past five years from 83 trillion won in 2011 to 99-point-five trillion won in 2015.

The figure surpassed the 100 trillion won mark last year despite China’s ban on Korean pop culture and a massive influence-peddling scandal involving President Park Geun-hye and her friend Choi Soon-sil. China accounts for about 30 percent of South Korea's content industry market.

The industry is comprised of eleven sectors including music, games, movies, animation, text publications, advertisement and content solution.
