Cyber Security Center for Safeguarding Nat'l Archives Established

The Ministry of the Interior on Thursday held a ceremony marking the opening of a cyber security center that will be tasked with guarding key records in the National Archives of Korea.

The center was set up at the government complex in Daejeon where the archives agency is also located. It will play the role of analyzing, detecting, preventing and responding to various cyber threats.

The National Archives of Korea had previously operated, on its own, an information system for managing its some 99 million records. But it ran into difficulties in managing the archives in a concerted manner.

In order to maintain comprehensive control over security, the center will have access to the latest data on cyber threats from the National Intelligence Service’s cyber safety center and the Korea Internet and Security Agency.

The center will also handle server and network malfunctions.
