Samsung Electronics ranked second for the eleventh consecutive year in terms of number of patents held in the United States.

According to IFI Claims Patent Services, a U.S. firm that specializes patent analysis, Samsung Electronics was awarded five-thousand-518 patents in the U.S. last year, up eight-point-eight percent from a year ago.

IBM retained the top spot for the 24th consecutive year with eight-thousand-88 patents, while Japan’s Canon and Qualcomm ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Google came in fifth, while South Korea’s LG Electronics placed seventh.
