S. Korea, US Agree FTA Has Yielded Mutual Benefits

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that for now at least, both Washington and Seoul view the existing free trade agreement between the two countries as a positive thing.

Vice Foreign Minister Ahn Chong-ghee and U.S. Under Secretary of State Catherine Novelli cochaired a high-level economic council meeting between Korean officials and the outgoing Obama administration.

South Korean officials reportedly requested U.S. officials to convey their positive assessment of the trade agreement to the incoming administration of Donald Trump.

Trump, set to take office in a matter of weeks, has suggested he may seek to renegotiate the Korea-US FTA.
