Finance Minister Promotes S. Korean Economy in US

Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho is visiting the United States to promote the South Korean economy amid concerns about a policy vacuum due to the parliamentary impeachment of the president.

In the city of Boston on Monday, Yoo met with officials at asset management companies and explained the nation's political and economic situation as well as its policy direction.

Representatives from financial firms including Fidelity Investments and MFS attended the meeting to discuss risks facing the South Korean economy and global economic prospects after the inauguration of the Donald Trump administration.

While assuring that the South Korean government is actively coping with internal and external risk factors, Yoo added that its expansionary fiscal policy, restructuring and structural reforms are being carried out according to plan.

He said the government will continue to pursue consistent policies with himself at the center.

The finance minister said the government will cooperate with the incoming U.S. administration through various routes to minimize concerns. He added that the international community, including China, is thoroughly cooperating on North Korea issues.
