Vice Minister Brushes off Currency Manipulation Concern

A senior South Korean finance official say the United States will probably not designate South Korea as a currency manipulator.

Vice Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok told Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn and other key ministry officials Thursday the U.S. is well aware that Seoul takes only minimal measures to curb sharp currency fluctuations.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened during his campaign to label China a currency manipulator, triggering restrictions on Chinese imports.

A report earlier in the week warned that regulatory changes necessary for Washington to apply the manipulator label to China could also possibly affect South Korea.
