Gov't to Exempt Tariffs on Imported Eggs from Wed.

The government has decided to exempt tariffs on imported eggs from Wednesday to June in a bid to stabilize egg prices.

The government convened a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and decided to implement an import quota tariff for eggs and processed goods using eggs.

An import quota tariff is a flexible system that allows the upward or downward adjustment of tariffs by as much as 40 percent from the base rate as a way to stabilize prices or boost the competitiveness of domestic goods.

With the move, fresh eggs and eight types of processed goods, including egg powder, will be tax-exempt.

The existing rate on such items stands between eight and 30 percent.

The quota tariff will be applied on 98-thousand tons of goods, including 35-thousand tons of fresh eggs.
