LG Group says it will leave the Federation of Korean Industries(FKI), the nation's largest business lobby, at the end of this year.
LG said Tuesday that it had notified the FKI of its decision to become the first conglomerate to do so.
Samsung Group announced its plan to break away from the FKI during a parliamentary hearing on the Choi Soon-sil scandal on December sixth, but Samsung has yet to make a formal notification of withdrawal.
The FKI, the nation's business group lobby, came under fire for allegedly urging conglomerates to donate money for the establishment of two nonprofit foundations controlled by Choi Soon-sil. As a result of public outrage, leaders of multiple conglomerates gave their testimonies on whether they contributed to the foundations in return for favors before a special parliamentary committee.
Samsung said that starting from next year, it would not take part in FKI activities nor pay membership dues.
LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo also announced his intention to leave FKI during the National Assembly hearing.
