11 Autonomous Cars Run 26,000km Without Accident

Eleven self-driving cars have clocked 26-thousand kilometers in South Korea over nine months, from March to November, without a single accident.

According to data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport released Monday, six organizations including Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and Seoul National University, received licenses from the ministry for safely testing their autonomous vehicles on local roads.

However, in ten cases, passengers switched to manual driving mode when lanes were unclear or when other cars cut in front of the vehicles without leaving enough safe distance for reaction time.
