'N. Korea Will Continue to Advance Nuclear, Missile Capabilities Next Year'

South Korea’s Unification Ministry expects North Korea will continue to seek advancement of its nuclear and missile capabilities next year.

The ministry presented the assessment in a report on Monday, based on its projection that the North will conduct tests of intermediate-range Musudan missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles and missiles that can carry mock nuclear warheads.

Pyongyang claimed that it successfully detonated a nuclear warhead with its fifth nuclear test on September ninth. The view among South Korean experts is that the North is nearing the final stages before deployment of a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, the ministry also forecasts Pyongyang may go all-out next year to idolize its leader Kim Jong-un as part of efforts to solidify his leadership.
