30% of Next Year's Budget to be Frontloaded in Q1

The government and the ruling Saenuri Party have decided to spend more than 30 percent of next year’s budget in the first quarter.

Saenuri chief policy-maker Lee Hyun-jae said the decision was reached during an emergency meeting on Friday as part of efforts to spend more than 60 percent of the budget in the first half of the year.

At the meeting, the ruling party asked the government to consider drawing up a supplementary budget by next February, saying that frontloading the budget is insufficient to boost the economy.

The government is said to have replied that it would actively consider the party's call.

Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Il-ho had previously said he will consider launching a supplementary budget only if growth drops into the lower two percent range next year but the drop is unlikely.
