More than 22 Million Poultry Culled Due to AI

The number of poultry culled due to the spread of avian influenza(AI) has exceeded 22 million.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said that as of Thursday, more than 20 million poultry were culled and over two million more were going to be buried.

The accumulated figure comes 36 days after the first case of the latest outbreak was reported in mid-November. It accounts for some 13 percent of all of the nation’s poultry.

In particular, eggs will likely remain in short supply for some time, as nearly 22 percent of egg-laying chickens were culled.
