Unionized pilots of Korean Air entered a ten-day strike as of Thursday.
The airline decreased overseas flights linking South Korea and Japan’s Narita and Osaka, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
At home, it will operate fewer planes linking Seoul and the southern cities of Gimhae, Ulsan and Yeosu. Operations of flights linking the southern resort island of Jeju and Gimhae will also be reduced.
Those who paid for the affected international flights can receive refunds or change their flight dates without paying fines or additional fares. All domestic fares will be returned without cancellation fees.
The unionized pilots are demanding a pay raise, claiming that their real wages are up to three times lower than those of foreign airliners. The union initially called for a raise of 37 percent but lowered it to 29 percent but the management is only willing to increase it by two percent.
