Gov’t Denies Media Reports of Park’s Letter to Kim Jong-il in 2005

The Unification Ministry has denied media reports that President Park Geun-hye sent a letter to former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il regarding inter-Korean exchanges eleven years ago.

In a news briefing on Wednesday, Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee asserted that Park, who was then a lawmaker and serving as a director of the Europe-Korea Foundation, did not send such a letter. Jeong also quoted officials of the foundation as confirming the matter.

Some domestic media outlets earlier reported that Park sent Kim a letter regarding the Europe-Korea Foundation's exchange project with the North on July 13th, 2005.
