No. of Cruise Tourists Visiting S. Korea to Hit 2.2 Mln This Year

The number of foreign tourists visiting South Korea aboard cruise ships is expected to reach two-point-two million this year, up 112 percent from last year.

The Korea Tourism Organization said Tuesday that the number of cruise ship passengers visiting South Korea grew by an average of more than 46 percent from 2010 to 2015. The number topped one million last year for the first time.

The state-run tourism agency attributed the growth to a surge in Chinese cruise tourists who accounted for 72 percent of the total one-point-94 million as of the end of October.

The agency says cruise tourists are capturing a bigger share in the tourism market, representing about 13 percent of all foreign tourists.
