South Korea and China have agreed to expand the scope of electric or electronic products that can be sold in each other’s market without additional product testing or assessments.
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards(KATS) under the Trade Ministry said on Tuesday that the two governments recently signed the agreement to mark the first anniversary of the effectuation of the Seoul-Beijing free trade agreement(FTA).
KATS said under the deal, all 104 items of South Korean electronic products will be exempt from obtaining the China Compulsory Certificate(CCC) as long as they are approved by South Korean authorities.
Acquiring the CCC mark had been a headache for South Korean exporters as they had to pay a substantial amount of commission and wait for three months.
The South Korean government met with the Chinese government in September of last year and agreed to cooperate on addressing the issue. In March, Trade Minister Joo Hyung-hwan visited China and signed an agreement to approve each other’s certification for electric or electronic goods.
KATS said the two countries have begun to apply the mutual system on six items. Next year, it will be expanded to all 104 South Korean electric or electronic items required to obtain the CCC and all 173 Chinese electric or electronic goods subject to Korea Certification(KC) mark.
