Statistics Korea Revamps Consumer Price Index

The nation's statistical agency has announced it will revamp its consumer price index.

Starting later this month, when calculating the index, the prices of items such as brown rice, box lunches and hearing aids will be added, while items such as paper dictionaries and magazines will be dropped from the index.

Statistics Korea has announced it will overhaul the consumer price index to better reflect recent changes in the economy and society.

Under the overhaul, the benchmark index of 100 will be based on the year 2015 instead of the current 2010.

Statistics Korea will announce the first figures on consumer price trends based upon the revised conditions on December 30th.
