S. Korea, Britain to Prepare for Bilateral FTA

South Korea and Britain will each launch a task force aimed at promoting a bilateral free trade deal.

Seoul's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said its representatives reached the agreement with the British Department of International Trade at a meeting held in London on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to keep their trade relations solid and unchanged, despite Brexit.

It was the first meeting South Korea held with the Department of International Trade, which was created in a governmental reorganization, following Britain’s decision in June to leave the EU.

The two countries will hold the first meeting of their task forces in February with an aim to put a new trade relationship into effect once Britain officially departs from the EU.

In addition, they will also boost cooperation in the new renewable energy industry by launching a consultative body.
