Migratory Bird in S. Gyeongsang Tested Positive for Bird Flu

A migratory bird in South Gyeongsang Province has been found to have been infected with bird flu.

The South Gyeongsang Provincial Office said on Tuesday that a dead whooper swan discovered in Upo Wetland in Changnyeong County was tested positive for the H5N6 strain of avian influenza(AI).

The office has conducted emergency quarantine measures within a 10-kilometer radius from where the virus was detected.

The provincial government has also banned the travel of around two million poultry bred in 45 farms within the region.

It is also controlling the movement of vehicles into the area, and set up nine control offices along major roads leading to the area to prevent citizens from entering.
