ETRI Develops Processor for Unmanned Cars with Domestic Technology

South Korean researchers have reached a breakthrough that will make it easier to adopt driverless vehicles.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute said Thursday a newly developed processor known as "Aldebaran" can identify and repair virtually every possible malfunction of electronic equipment on unmanned vehicles, such as unintended acceleration.

The Aldebaran processor is expected to significantly reduce South Korea's reliance on processors designed in other countries.

It also uses a small fraction of the power required by processors made in other countries.
