Consumer Sentiment Plunges to Lowest Level in over 7 Years

South Korea’s consumer sentiment plummeted to the lowest level in seven years and seven months in November.

According to the Bank of Korea(BOK) on Friday, the nation’s composite consumer sentiment index(CCSI) for November stood at 95-point-eight, down by six-point-one points from October.

It is the lowest level since the index was measured at 94-point-two in April 2009.

It is also the first time in five months the index fell below 100, which indicates it is pessimistic than the long-term average of consumer sentiment.

The rapid decline in the index was attributed partly to worries of the economic ramifications due to the Choi Soon-sil debacle and the unexpected election of Donald Trump as the next U.S. president.

The survey was conducted on two-thousand-200 households across the country for eight days beginning November eleventh. A total of two-thousand-56 households responded to the survey.
