Hyundai, Kia's Market Share in EU Rises to 6.3%

Sales of cars in the European Union(EU) produced by South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors shot up in the first ten months of the year, bringing their combined market share to six-point-three percent.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association(ACEA) on Thursday, the number of cars newly registered with the 28 EU member states in the January to October period stood at 12-point-35 million, up by seven-point-two percent from the same period last year.

Hyundai Motor sold 415-thousand-360 cars from January to October, eight-point-six percent more than last year. Sales of its affiliate Kia Motors during the same period also jumped 13-point-eight percent to 363-thousand-755.

The combined sales figures of Hyundai and Kia made up the largest proportion of all cars sold during the period.

Their combined market share in the EU rose to six-point-three percent as of October — three-point-four percent for Hyundai and two-point-nine percent for Kia — making the Hyundai-Kia group the eighth largest automaker in the region.
