South Korea has put into operation a joint council of government officials and private groups to actively deal with trade policies of the U.S. administration under new U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Sunday that the council in charge of the country’s trade with the U.S. will be jointly headed by the trade minister and the chief of the Korea International Trade Association.
The council, comprised of officials from the country’s leading business associations, trade support groups, research institutes and trade experts, will devise the country’s policies on trade with the U.S. and ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
It will also seek to establish communication channels with the U.S. government, parliament and businesses.
In addition, a working-level task force will be created under the council to monitor and find out trade regulations and difficulties for domestic exporters to the U.S. and devise ways to help the local exporters overcome the difficulties.
