Average S. Korean Lives 11 Years Longer than N. Korean

A new report finds that an average South Korean lives eleven years more than an average North Korean.

The Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs says in 2015, the average life expectancy for South Korean women is about 84-point-six.  South Korean men generally live to 78.

But the life expectancy for North Korean women was estimated at just over 73, while men in the North lived a bit longer than 66.

That's a South-North gap in lifespan of about eleven years for both genders.

Lifespans have increased in both Koreas since 1965, but the trend of South Koreans living longer has remained consistent.

South Korean women generally lived three more years than North Korean women till 57 and a half in 1965.

South Korean men outlived men in the North back then by about four years, to just over 52.
