S. Korea's Current Account Surplus Rebounds

South Korea’s current account surplus expanded in September after it narrowed for two straight months before.

According to preliminary data announced by the Bank of Korea(BOK) on Tuesday, the nation's current account surplus was tallied at eight-point-26 billion U.S. dollars in September, marking a two-point-98 billion-dollar increase from August.

It also extends the country’s record long current account surplus to 55 straight months since March 2013.

The goods account surplus contributed to the rebound in the account surplus by growing three-point-71 billion dollars from August to ten-point-76 billion dollars.

The country’s exports in September, meanwhile, stood at 44-point-zero-one billion dollars, down by two-point-four percent from the same month last year, while imports edged up by zero-point-one percent to 33-point-two billion dollars during the same period. 

Exports of cars in September amounted to two-point-19 billion dollars, down by 25-point-one percent from the same month last year, while exports of information and telecommunication devices reached three-point-22 billion dollars, down by 21-point-two percent.
