S. Korea's CO2 Levels Larger than Earth's Levels

The levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide on the Korean Peninsula are much higher than the global average.

According to the World Meteorological Organization(WMO) and the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) on Monday, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere over Anmyeon Island in South Chungcheong Province marked 407 parts per million(ppm) on average last year, up two-point-two ppm from the previous year.

The 2015 figure is much higher than 400 ppm for the world.

The earth’s average atmospheric CO2 levels increased by an annual average of two-point-three ppm over the past decade. Levels rose two-point-five ppm last year.

A KMA official said that CO2 levels are expected to continue to increase across the world, which will inevitably lead to a rise in Earth's average temperature.

At the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC(COP21) last year, countries agreed to work to keep global warming to less than two degrees Celsius.
