The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has launched an institution designed to help with efforts to develop globally popular augmented reality(AR) or virtual reality(VR) games such as Pokemon Go.

The G-NEXT Center, which opened its doors on Thursday, is built on a one-thousand-100 square meter area within the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation(CCEI) in Seongnam.

The center houses 19 award-winning game developers. The companies will be provided with state support to develop and export games or build business models to capitalize on existing games.

The province also plans to foster young talents through various education programs.

An official of the provincial office said the game sector has grown into a promising growth engine for South Korea and that the province will continue to host various projects to help foster the industry.
