The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) plunged on Tuesday after Samsung Electronics announced a global suspension in sales of its Note 7 smartphones.

The main index dropped 24-point-89 points, or one-point-21 percent, to close at two-thousand-31-point-93. 

Shares of Samsung Electronics sank eight-point-zero-four percent from the day before.

The secondary KOSDAQ also lost four-point-one points, or zero-point-61 percent, to 670-point-64.
 
On the foreign exchange market, the local currency depreciated 12 won against the greenback to one-thousand-120-point-four won.
