North Korea has officially acknowledged that it received emergency assistance from the UN regarding the damage it suffered from recent floods.
The North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said on Wednesday that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA) and UNICEF decided to provide “emergency cooperation” for the North with regard to flood-inflicted damages sustained in the northern area of North Hamgyong Province.
It is the first time that state-run media in the North reported about the UN assistance for the recent flood damage. The KCNA reported late last month that the Chinese government decided to provide flood aid for the North.
Meanwhile, the Voice of America reported that the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund(CERF) has collected four-point-85 million U.S. dollars in total donations from the international community to help North Korean flood victims, including a fund of 750-thousand dollars collected most recently.
