North Korean media reported Friday that leader Kim Jong-un has sent a letter to the students, staff and professors of Kim Il-sung University, encouraging them to advance the school into a world-class institution.
According to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA), Kim said in the letter that the university should regularly hold international academic seminars and expand joint research with prestigious universities and research organizations in other countries. He said the school should also enroll many foreign students to teach the Korean language and send its doctorate students to study in other countries.
Kim added that the school should produce outstanding papers and present them at international seminars and to global journals. He hoped the school would advance the Kim Il-sung University journal into a distinguished academic magazine.
Founded in 1946, the institution is the North's first university. It is composed of humanities, social studies, science and engineering, agricultural and medical schools.
