Hyundai Motor Unionists Go on Full Strike

Unionists of Hyundai Motor went on strike on Monday -- their first full strike since 2004.

Hyundai's assembly lines in Ulsan, Jeonju and Asan all stopped as union members walked off the job and held a rally instead.

The management said that 20 strikes this year, including the Monday walkout, have cost the company two-and-a-half trillion won from lost production of 114-thousand cars.

Hyundai workers plan to strike six hours a day through Friday, except the day when they hold negotiations with the management.

The union and the management reached a tentative agreement on August 24th, that would raise the workers' monthly wages by 58-thousand won plus a bonus of 350 percent and three-point-three million won in cash for each worker. Unionists, however, voted against the deal.
