UN Agencies in N. Korea Request CERF Assistance to Help Flood Victims

UN agencies operating in North Korea have reportedly called for financial assistance from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund(CERF) to help the victims of recent floods in the country.

Christelle Loupforest, a spokeswoman for the New York-based CERF, told VOA that the UN bodies submitted documents requesting assistance for their relief efforts in the North early this week.

She said the CERF will review the paperwork and decide as soon as it can on whether to execute financing.

It was known that the UN and other humanitarian agencies requested contributions worth 28-point-two million dollars from the international community since the recent floods in the North.

The UN is providing funds through the CERF to help countries severely lacking sufficient humanitarian budgets.
