Ban on In-flight Use of Samsung Note 7 to be Lifted

The government will lift a ban on carrying Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on board flights, following the electronics giant’s recalls of the products.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport sent an official notice about the decision to airlines and the Incheon International Airport Corporation on Wednesday.

In the notice, the ministry said that newly exchanged Galaxy Note 7 smartphones can be used and recharged on planes and carried as air cargo.

The ministry banned the in-flight use and carriage of the device as cargo on September tenth due to reported cases of the products catching fire or exploding.

Exchanged phones have three different features from the previous product, including a green visual indication of the battery’s state of charge.
